To be honest, it is not a surprise if we say that soft drinks are not good for our health, but the latest study published in the reputable American publication The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society has revealed that the consumption of soft drinks is more harmful than scientists previously thought, especially in case when you enjoy these sweet drinks in the evening right before going to bed.
This means that the time spent at the gym and the hard exercise won’t provide almost any results in case you don’t have the willpower to resist soft drinks.
A recent study has shown that people who have consumed soft drinks on a regular basis in a period of nine years had three times more fat on their bellies compared to those who have avoided these drinks. More than 700 individuals at the age of 65 and above were part of this research. Although all of them didn’t include high calorie foods, they had more fat on the stomach because of the soft drinks. What is even worse is the fact that exactly this fat is related to type 2 diabetes, various inflammations and cardiovascular diseases.
The nutritionists are convinced that the main reason why soft drinks are making our waist wider and why they lead to fat accumulation is the presence of artificial sweeteners in these drinks. Another study conducted on a group of mice has confirmed that artificial sweeteners affect the work of intestinal bacteria and reduce the levels of leptin hormone which affects the appetite. Of course, moderate drinking of these beverages won’t harm your health, but all these things should definitely encourage you to think about their consumption.
