A Basic Guide to Sugar Detox

Boost fiber intake

If you have practiced a diet that was rich in fats and sugars for a long period of time, it is very likely that the microbes found in the intestines have changed. This problem can be solved by eating foods rich in fiber in the time when you usually consume products that contain sugar. This fiber rich food will accelerate the work of intestinal bacteria and provide a feeling of satiety and reduce sugar cravings.

Don’t forget the drinks

Sugar detox won’t be successful in case you don’t eliminate the ones found in liquids. This means that you should avoid drinks like juices, soft drinks, alcohol and energy drinks. You are probably not aware that a drop of wine has twice the calories found in Coke. During sugar detox, drink plain water or freshly squeezed juices from vegetables and fruits without using sweeteners. Use more vegetables in these juices because fruits are rich in sugar.

Use homemade ketchup

If you really like ketchup, you should know that only one tablespoon of ketchup contains a teaspoon of sugar. The good news is that you can replace it with healthier homemade ketchup.

Pour few tablespoons of oil in a large bowl and heat it on the stove. Add three cloves of onion, sliced into very thin slices and braise it until it gets soft (for about 20 minutes). Add a ¼ cup of water in the bowl and let it cook for 2 minutes. After that, add 2 red peppers roasted on a grill (chopped and cleaned from seeds) and pour 150 ml of tomato puree and let it warm up for 2-3 minutes. Then add 1 ½ teaspoon of vinegar, a teaspoon of Dijon mustard, freshly ground pepper and salt to taste. Pour the mixture in a blender and grind. In order to get thick smooth ketchup filter it through a thick gauze.
